7月13日〜17日の5日間、カナダ・アルバータ大学から文化心理学のトップランナー増田 貴彦先生をお招きして、文学研究科教員との協働によるサマープログラムを開講いたしました。
Professor Takahiko Masuda – a leading researcher in the field of cultural psychology at the University of Alberta – was hosted for a five-day summer program held from July 13 to July 17, 2015, in collaboration with the Graduate School of Letters at Hokkaido University.
授業のテーマ（講義題目）は「文化心理学の最前線」で、3日間の集中講義がおこなわれました。

増田先生による熱のこもった講義の後は、本研究科行動システム科学講座の結城先生（社会科学実験研究センター長兼任）も交えたフリーディスカッションの時間。授業内容の確認・質問のほか、受講生が日頃感じている疑問に対し、増田先生や結城先生が文化心理学の視点から、疑問を解決するヒントを提供したり、考えを深めるための発展的な事例紹介をしたりしていきました。
Following an animated lecture by Professor Masuda, time was allowed for free discussion with the attendance of Masaki Yuki, who is a professor of the Department of Behavioral Science (part of the Graduate School of Letters’ Division of Human Sciences) and Director of the Center for Experimental Research in Social Sciences at Hokkaido University. Summer program attendees reviewed the content of the course and asked relevant questions, and also took the opportunity to ask about other academic matters. Professors Masuda and Yuki helped out with answers to the questions and highlighted developed cases studies in order to enrich understanding from a cultural psychology viewpoint.
この授業には、アルバータ大学の大学院生3名がTAとして参加し、彼らの研究紹介とディスカッションの時間も設けられました。
Three graduate students from the University of Alberta participated in this program as teaching assistants. Time was allocated for them to present their research and discuss it with other attendees.
授業アンケートでは、「日本にいながら海外の大学の授業をうけられるというすばらしい体験ができた。もっと専門分野を外国語で学びたい。外国でともに学びたいと感じた。」「ディスカッションなどの参加型授業がかなり楽しかった。」「日本の大学生がこんなにも活発にディスカッションに参加するような（したくなる）雰囲気の授業は他にないと思います。」など、大変満足度の高い回答が得られました。
Results from a questionnaire survey of course attendees were very positive. These included, “Taking a course provided by a professor from a university outside my own country was such a wonderful experience that I now want to pursue my field of study in another language with foreign students abroad,” “Being part of the discussions and interactive classes was fun,” and “In my opinion, no other class can create an atmosphere that encourages Japanese college students to participate or be willing to participate in discussions as actively as this.”
3日間の授業の後は2日間にわたり、大学院生向けの論文執筆ワークショップが開催されました。
A two-day academic essay-writing workshop for graduate students was held after the three days of classes.
行動システム科学専修の大学院生が書いた学術雑誌投稿用の論文ドラフトをアルバータ大学の大学院生が添削・コメントし、更に増田先生からは日本人が英語論文を書く際に間違えやすいポイントや、北米文化圏の読者にとってわかりやすい論理構成について解説がありました。
The graduate students from the University of Alberta edited and commented on a draft paper written by a graduate student of the Department of Behavioral Science to be submitted to an academic journal. Professor Masuda also highlighted some common errors made by Japanese authors of papers in English and outlined logical composition to optimize clarity for North American readers.
