〈Hokkaido Summer Institute Satellite School〉 “Issues in the Japanese Sociology of Language” was held

During the 4 days of Aug. 8th ~ 12th, one of the course subjects of Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) satellite school. “Issues in the Japanese Sociology of language” was held.

The program is the lecture about how to think about the actual conditions about modern Japanese, Ainu language, Ryukyu language, also many kinds of dialects, from the view of the relationship of the changes in country and society. Professor Imai in the Department of Sociology at the Graduate School of Letters is the coordinator of this program. The main lecturer is professor Patrick Heinlich from Venezia University, the social linguistic scholar. The lecture was held as an intensive course, to learn the latest social linguistics.

In the afternoon of the 3rd day of the lecture, the ‘Open Lecture’ was held among the researchers of Hokkaido University. The lecture title is “Language shift as an index of social inequality: The case of the Ryukyus”, the researchers of linguistics and sociology had taken part in the lecture.
